4 Tips to Use Essential Oils as Air Fresheners

Did you know that some of your favorite essential oils can be used as air fresheners? Wow, I know right, who knew!?! Yep, it is absolutely true. You can take your favs and make any room smell amazing. I will share a few tips on how to do this.

Tip #1

Place a few drops of your favorite essential oil onto a cotton ball and rub the corners of a room. I find this technique is most effective in small spaces like bathrooms and linen closets.

Tip #2

Invest in a diffuser. Yes this is probably my favorite way to use essential oils as an air freshener. Just add a few drops to some distilled water and plug it in. Most diffusers will last a few hours and the scents will last even longer. Also, don't forget to clean your diffuser once a week when you are using it regularly.

Tip #3

Get a simmer pot or just use the stovetop. A simmer pot works similar to the diffuser except it heats up and you can add other stuff to it like fruit peels and cinnamon sticks. Don't have a simmer pot, no worries, this same method can be used on your stovetop with a pot of boiling water. Simply fill a pot (almost full) with water, place on the stove until boiling, then reduce the heat to a simmer. You can be so creative here with your scents. I love adding apples and cinnamon sticks along with a few drops of cinnamon essential oil. I don't recommend using your everyday cooking pots for this, use that pot you were going to throw away because the handle broke or get one from your local thrift store.

Tip #4

Make your own spray freshener. In a glass or PET plastic spray bottle add distilled water, 100 proof vodka (rubbing alcohol or witch hazel) and 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. The ratio is 2 parts water to 1 part vodka. Shake well before each use and enjoy the scent you created just about anywhere!
