What is a carrier oil is one of the questions I get asked the most by people who are new to the world of DIY. A carrier oil is an oil that is used when applying essential oils to your skin. This is because most of the essential oils (when used alone) have the potential to cause skin irritations.
There are many types of carrier oils to choose from with each one being unique. One of the most important things to consider is how your skin reacts to it. Remember to do a patch test on one of the most sensitive parts of your skin before using any skin products, like the inside of your wrist.
Here are a few examples of carrier oils and their benefits for your skin:
1. Sweet Almond Oil. Sweet almond oil is light and absorbs easily into the skin. This is one of the best oils for sensitive skin and offers great hydration.
2. Grapeseed Oil. Grapeseed oil contains Vitamin E and helps your skin to lock in moisture and can help protect the skin from sun damage.
3. Coconut Oil. Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties to help prevent skin irritations.
These are just a few. Some others to consider are argan, jojoba and apricot. I hope this helps you on your DIY journey to understanding carrier oils better.
